Advice?

My queues are running low these days. So, how about you tell me what you're into these days so I can copy you and judge if I should really be your friend based on if I liked what you liked. Here we go!

Books: I just finished The Gathering and hated it. I'm currently reading The Glass Castle and even 40 pages in, I can tell it's gonna be a good book. What else though? What are your top 3 faves? What are you reading now or just read that was a book you'd recommend? Tell me for fuck's sake!

Music: I'm not sure how old The Raincoats are but I can't stop listening to this chick group. Also, I just bought tix for the Ratatat show and am so damn pumped to dance my booty this way and that. What are you into? Whatever it is, I can most likely get it from the library, so let me know.

Movie rentals: I keep going to Blockbuster cause I have this stupid free movie pass, and yet I can't seem to find anything new that looks half way decent. I got Atonement from the library and that was good (not great). I almost got Persepolis, but I've seen that already and I know it's good (and great). I also almost got An Affair to Remember, and now I'm thinking I should've, but I was drunk yesterday and knew I'd immediately pass out once I got home. Which I did, so tonight's the night. Give me a movie rental suggestion fast!

Movies: I've heard Wall-E is getting great reviews, and I just sent in my SASE for a chance to win The Dark Knight tickets, but what else? Is Hancock any good? Are there any indie movies worth seeing lately? The last real good one I saw was Young @ Heart, but I feel like I've been in a movie slump lately. Tell me there's hope out there. Tell me there's something worth paying for.

Recipes: Ever since I started getting my local produce sent to me, I cook a lot more and love it! Now I just need more recipes. Healthy ones please. I'm already obsessed with www.101cookbooks.com smittenkitchen.com and chocolateandzucchini.com but where do you guys go? To get an idea of what I'm looking for, I'm not a fan of foodnetwork.com. I like the food blogs, rather than just spewing out recipes.

Blogs: I basically have OCD where I constantly look at the same 5 blogs over and over again. What do you like? What do you read? Give me something funny or interesting or educational or awesome or weird. I need something new.

Travel: I'm always going somewhere. So have at it. Have you been somewhere amazing lately? Camping? Hiking? Beach? Somewhere unknown? Tell me.

www.orangette.blogspot.com. lots of good vegetable recipes in the index. She lives in Seattle, but I knew her as an Okie back in the day.

and that's my 2 cents!

books: reading the short stories of Chekov (GOOD), and When You Are Engulfed in Flames (typical Sedaris fare: funny, but not surprising). finished charles schulz bio awhile ago and would recommend it only if you don't mind the length and angst.

music: my summer soundtrack so far has been: the born ruffians, vampire weekend, otis redding, neko case, mika (YES!), blonde redhead and spoon.

movies/rentals: hm. recently watched this very surreal anime called "Tekkonkinkreet" which was pretty awesome. saw wall-e, and liked it. DO NOT WATCH WAR, INC. i also watched "the bicycle thief" for the first time and cried my eyes out.

recipes: my only food blog is everybodylikessandwiches.com. my bf loves to cook and he lives by the Joy of Cooking and Cooks Illustrated issues.

blogs: HEY I HAVE A NEW ONE: prattlermo.blogspot.com.

maurene,

thanks! i knew you'd have good book suggestions. i actually had the charles schultz bio sitting around for awhile, but i was reading something else and then i didn't have time to get to the book. now that i'm breezing through my current read, i'll be sure to pick it up from the library especially since i just read the unseen charlie brown comic strips and even though i'm not a huge fan, it was still interesting.

as for music, i think vampire weekend is on everyone's list. it's been on my queue for quite some time. just haven't gotten it from the library, and i somehow missed the concert. ho hum. i went through a spoon stage and now i'm over it. but i heart otis redding, especially when it's a nice summer day i'm reading. i'll have to check out mika. is that the one with the chick on the cover? i guess i'll find out soon enough.

i'll have to see this anime flick! probably on my own as the boyfriend doesn't really dig cartoons as much as me. no worries. he loved persepolis and that's all that matters! as for the bicycle thief, i've wanted to see that since it was mentioned in a my so-called life espisode (i have a ridiculous memory when it comes to tv shows). when i need a good cry, i'll rent it for sure!

and i have a very old joy of cooking thanks to my grandma. and yes, i frequent everybodylovessandwiches.com although, she makes a lot of sweets, but still i like her cause she doesn't seem so wordy like the other food blogs. and she also lives close by (vancouver?) so it's nice to hear her nw points of views. god, is there any new food blogs i haven't seen?! i'm thinking no!

and i just checked out your new adult blog. get to writing! and happy happy birthday to you. you're like 15 now right?

cheers!

I'm reading Prince of Tides. It's taking me a long time. But Pat Conroy is a great writer and every page is filled with beautiful imagery and detail. It's about 600 pages, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

Movie wise? I loved the series Calfornication. Got it on Netflix. About a writer who's a fucking mess, but it is pretty interesting.
David Duchnovey is the star, and Harry from SCTC plays his agent.

I'll get back to you on the food thing. Have to go to a meeting.
